Lake Kivu

Nyungwe Forest

Nyungwe Forest National Park is a spectacular and diverse rainforest located in southwestern Rwanda. Covering an area of approximately 1,020 square kilometers (395 square miles), Nyungwe is one of the oldest and largest montane rainforests in East Africa. Its remarkable biodiversity and pristine ecosystem have earned it recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Birds in Nyungwe Forest: Nyungwe is a haven for birdwatchers, boasting an impressive array of bird species. With over 310 recorded bird species, it is a birdwatcher's paradise. Some of the notable avian inhabitants include the Great Blue Turaco, Ruwenzori Turaco, Handsome Francolin, Rwenzori Batis, Grauer's Rush Warbler, and the Albertine Rift-endemic Red-collared Babbler. Birdwatching enthusiasts will be delighted by the abundance of colorful and unique birdlife found in the forest.

 

Primates in Nyungwe Forest: The forest is also renowned for its diverse primate population. It is home to 13 different primate species, including the endangered Chimpanzees and the Angolan Colobus monkey. The Angolan Colobus, also known as the Guereza, is particularly famous for its striking black and white coat and can be spotted leaping between the trees. Other primates found in Nyungwe include the Rwenzori Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, L'Hoest's Monkey, and the Olive Baboon, among others.

Chimpanzee Tracking

Chimpanzees and Nyungwe Forest: Nyungwe Forest National Park is a haven for primate lovers, as it is home to diverse species of chimpanzees and other primates. Akagera National Park

Wildlife in Akagera National Park: Located in the east of Rwanda, Akagera National Park showcases a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffalos, giraffes, and various antelope species.
